Common TCM Failure Symptoms

A faulty transmission control module may cause one or more of the following problems:

• AT warning light illuminated

• Check Engine light illuminated

• Transmission remains in third gear or fail-safe mode

• Hard engagement when shifting into Drive or Reverse

• Harsh or erratic shifting

• Loss of communication with the TCM

Common Diagnostic Trouble Codes

• U0101 — Lost Communication with TCM

• U0100 — Lost Communication with ECM/PCM

• P0753 — Shift Solenoid A Electrical Malfunction

• P0758 — Shift Solenoid B Electrical Malfunction

• P0763 — Shift Solenoid C Electrical Malfunction

These symptoms and trouble codes may be associated with a defective TCM, but they do not independently confirm that the module has failed. Proper diagnosis is required before ordering.
